Himalayan salt is rock salt mined from the Punjab region of Pakistan. The salt, which often has a pinkish tint due to trace minerals, is primarily used as a food additive to replace refined table salt but is also used for cooking and food presentation, decorative lamps, and spa treatments.

Potential Health Benefits of Himalayan Salt
However, research has not demonstrated that Himalayan salt has any unique health benefits compared to other dietary salts. The mineral impurities that give it a pink color, often promoted as healthful, are far too low in concentration to be nutritionally beneficial.
It contains up to 98 percent sodium chloride. The rest of the salt consists of trace minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium. These give the salt its light pink tint. These minerals also explain why Himalayan salt tastes different from regular table salt.
